FORT RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) -- An Alaska-based paratrooper from West Virginia has been killed in Afghanistan.

Army officials on Friday identified the soldier at 25-year-old Spec. Julian L. Berisford of Benwood, W.Va., which is in the Wheeling area. The Army says he was killed Wednesday by a rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire while on patrol.

The infantryman joined the Army in August 2007 and was assigned to the Airborne Brigade at Fort Richardson in Anchorage a year later.

My condolences to the family, your loss is un-imaginable. My advice to young adults is and always will be to: stay in school and get a good education. Go to college or technical school if possible, and don't believe the crap that military recruiters preach. You will never get rich in the military, and there is no honor in killing. Bush sent our troops to the Middle East in 1990 and we are still there 19 years later playing "policeman". I say bring our youth home, push the button and nuke the Middle East, take what we want from them [oil], but instead we pay for it with the blood of our children.
