HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A lack of orders and the slow economy in general means layoffs at a steel plant in Huntington.

Steel of West Virginia will furlough 53 workers by the end of the month, according to Company President, Tim Duke.

Duke tells WSAZ.com that many of the workers being furloughed are the same ones who were let go in last year's slowdown and then brought back earlier this year.

He says the good news is his inventory is down, and so is the inventory of his customers.

Duke says when things pick up, as he expects in January, he hopes to hire his workers back as soon as possible.

Right now, the company has 300 employees.
