UPDATE: Monday 11/23
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- No charges will be filed in an accident where a child was hit by a bus.
Gallipolis Police say their investigation shows the child ran from between two parked cars without looking where he was going when he was hit.
They say the bus driver was moving slowly and had no opportunity to avoid the child as he ran in front of the bus.
The accident happened last week in front of the old Gallia Academy High School, which is now the temporary home of Washington Elementary.
The child suffered minor injuries.
ORIGINAL STORY
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A child was hit by a bus after running into the street in front of a school in Gallia County Thursday.
It happened at about 3:30 p.m. in front of the temporary location for Washington Elementary on State Route 588 in Gallipolis.
According to a news release from the Gallipolis Police Department, sixth-grader Michael Vallee ran into traffic and a Guiding Hand School bus was not able to stop in time, hitting him.
Vallee was transported to the hospital with what's believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
"At the time this occurred the school was letting out for the day. Washington Elementary is currently being housed in the old Gallia Academy High School while renovations are being completed at the regular location of the school," stated the news release. "Because of this, Chief Clinton Patterson of the Gallipolis Police Department would like to encourage motorists in the area to use extreme caution while traveling near the old high school and remember that small children will be in the area."

My husband works at Gallia Academy, and he spoke with the bus driver who hit the boy after it happened, and she was devistated. If there was someone to blame, It would be the teachers who were suppose to be supervising the children. i'm just glad the boy is ok, and alive!
Our thoughts are with this child and his/her family and what they are going through. It is some ones fault this child was hit! The child did not hit himself! As Posted by: APPAULLED PARENT said it was just an accident! If it is not some ones fault for hitting humans why charge some one for hitting car, trucks, buses, etc. BIG money for damages $ more that are just banged up ACCIDENTS! Which is more IMPORTANT in DAMAGES cars, trucks, buses, or HUMAN LIFE? Bet if this was APPAULLED PARENTS kid it would be a different story!
I was behind the "bus" when it turned onto the street. For starters, it was NOT a school bus. The School buses load on another road. It was a transport bus the kind that if you need a ride to the dr. they pick you up. Second there are SEVERAL teachers as well as the Principal watching these kids EVERY day after school. Thirdly there is very limited parking at this school to begin with. The "bus" was going slow because it had just passed a stop light that had turned green.Tho I did not see the accident because I had already parked by the time the "bus" had hit the child i do know that it is VERY hard to see between the parked cars at the school. So instead of laying the blame game when in fact there is NOONE to blame for this why not say a prayer for this child and his family and be thankful he is alive.
