KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- For many parents making the decision whether or not to get their kids the swine flu vaccine has been a major one.
So when one mom decided against the swine flu vaccine, you can imagine how troubled she was when her son was vaccinated anyway.
After having concerns about the vaccine, she did her homework and at the end of the day, the best decision for her was not to have her son Dylan vaccinated.
So when Dylan came home the other night and had some sniffles- his grandmother asked him if his allergies were bothering him.
Dylan said no, but that he had received a nasal spray that day at school. His family figured out it was the vaccine he was given, even though his mom signed the box on the consent form that said she wasn’t interested.
She did though fill out the entire form, in the event the vaccine became mandatory. That created some confusion for the nurses.
Bottom line though, she did not give the folks at the school vaccination clinic her permission.
“They just need to be more cautious, I know it was a mistake I know it wasn’t intentional, they weren’t trying to force it on people, but they need to read the form. If you fill out a form they need to look and see what you put on there,” said Pam Jacobs, Dylan’s Grandmother.
The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department says they have talked to Dylan’s family and say there was an error made.

TO "A" THIS IS MORE THAN A MINOR COLD.PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM THIS. HAVE YOU NOT HEARD??I HAD THE VACCINE & STILL GOT IT FROM MY SON.I DIDNT HAVE IT AS BAD AS SOMEONE WHO DIDNT HAVE THE VACCINE.I DIDN'T LET MY SON GO OUTSIDE & RUNNING AROUND BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS ILLNESS.I WENT TO THE SCHOOL WHEN MY SON RECEIVED HIS VACCINE & THE NURSES THERE WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. 1 NURSE WAS TAKING THE FORMS AT THE DOOR ASKING THE CHILD THEIR NAME & DOB.THEN WHEN HE WENT TO THE NEXT LINE HE WAS ASKED AGAIN & WHAT VERSION HE WAS GETTING. WHEN HE SAT DOWN, HE WAS ASKED AGAIN. SO I FELT VERY SAFE. INSTEAD OF KEEPING THEM HOME & COSTING THEM A DAY OF EDUCATION, GO WITH THEM AT THE TIME WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVING OUT VACCINES & MAKE SURE HE DOES NOT GET IT.CALL THE SCHOOL THEY'LL TELL YOU WHEN & WHAT TIME THEY ARE SCHEDULED FOR.BE MORE ACTIVE & STOP COMPLAINING.WHAT KILLS ME IS THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PROVIDED YOU FREE OF CHARGE,PEOPLE STILL COMPLAIN!!!
My children will be staying home from school on the day they are giving the vaccinations. There have been too many "mistakes" made. I do not trust my childrens medical care with ANYONE except their doctor. I can not believe parents are willing to allow their children to receive a vaccination at school. We have had this flu, and it was nothing more than a minor cold. My children spent the week they had to be off of school outside playing and running around.
The best choice to have made was not to return the form if she did not want the child vaccinated. I work for a small county health dept and I know how overwhelming this H1N1 has become. I can only imagine what the larger counties are going through. The is so much misinformation going around that is creating problems for everyone. Mistakes will be made because this is unchartered territory for everyone. I for one will be so happy when the vaccine has all been given and the workplace can get back to normal.
