BELLEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - A volunteer firefighter faces an arson charge for allegedly setting a brush fire in Wood County.

Wood County sheriff's Lt. Shawn Graham says 19-year-old David Keith Richards of Murraysville is accused of setting a pile of trash on fire in a field near Belleville. The fire spread several feed.

Richards is a member of the Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

Graham says Richards confessed to authorities that he set the Tuesday fire to give the fire department something to do.

Richards was charged Thursday with arson. He remains free on $25,000 bond.

There was no telephone listing for David Richards. A call to a Ravenswood listing for D. Richards rang unanswered Friday morning.

I think it is in the water in West Virginia. Look at Madison Fire Dept, Mason Fire Dept. I think someone at the State Fire Marshall should be replaced, If they keep letting them get by with it(Mason) then they will keep setting fires. What wrong with the Fire Marshall they can not do their jobs anymore, Fire him and his assit. And start putting these people in jail. In case none of you noticed nothing has become of the mason firefighter again. Paper work lost again

This kind of thing seems to be really common in these volunteer fire departments. It must be something in the water in WV that attracts these kinds. They are volunteers that wants fo play with fire.
