After six hours of deliberations, a jury has returned a guilty verdict against a former charleston police officer. James Nowling was accused of double dipping, or getting paid from two employers, during the same work hours.

Just minutes ago, a jury found Nowling guilty on both counts against him: fraudulently obtaining money by means of false pretenses and computer fraud. Nowling was fired from his job as a Charleston police officer in 2003.

During his testimony, Nowling says double dipping is a common practice at the department and he named other retired officers who he says did the same thing.

The police chief and mayor just finished a news conference. Check back for updates.

Nowling is scheduled to be sentenced on June 14th.

white or black, what he did was wrong and he be punished for it. if others did the same, they also should be punished. it sounds to me that he was using the childhood excuse, " they did it so why can't i?". take responsibility for your own actions. even if he does lose his pension he has no one to blame but himself.

Come on now, he may have been wrong in double dipping but he is right, he is not the only one. I am sure others have committed more serious crimes and got away with it. This man is losing his retirement and maybe, God forbid, facing jail time. His family loses also. This affects so many facets of his life and his family. |I am sure,we would shout F O U L also. Think about it before you try to judge this man and race has nothing to do with it.

I was born in Charleston and race is always an issue in West Virginia. Remember what happened to the Black retired police officer last year
