UPDATE @ 3:05pm
CANNONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Sheriff's deputies say a blown tire is to blame for an accident that shut down Interstate 64 in Boyd County Tuesday night.

The crash happened at about 4 p.m. near the 185 mile marker in the east bound lanes.

The Boyd County Sheriff's Department says 44-year-old Oda Howard was driving a tractor trailer carrying gravel. After the tire blew, his truck ran off the road.

Howard was taken to a Huntington hospital for treatment. His hometown and condition were not available.

I-64 east did not open back up until about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

UPDATE: Wednesday Morning
911 dispatchers say I-64 re-opened at about 11:30 Tuesday night. The road had been shut down for about 7.5 hours.

ORIGINAL STORY
CANNONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Interstate 64 east is shut down in Boyd County near the Cannonsburg exit due to an accident involving a coal truck.

It happened just before 4 p.m. Tuesday near the 185 mile marker.

911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com that the truck apparently ran off the road -- and crews are working to get the wreckage cleaned up.

Boyd County Emergency Management Director Matt Adkins says the truck only spilled a small amount of motor oil. The coal truck driver was hurt, but there is no word yet on his condition.

WSAZ.com readers report a helicopter being called to the scene.

We're told east bound traffic is closed right now -- and drivers should avoid the area.

No word yet on any injuries.

Sister-N-Law i was one of the guys that helped Oda out, i gave him blankets, propped his head up and let him have my whole first aide kit, i tried to call the hospital to see if he was okay but they wouldn't let me through i'm very happy to hear he's doing okay, i hope he has a great Christmas. Brandon I am sure it is rough out there on the roads, espeacially for the safe truck drivers. You also have to admit there are some rigs that would rather knock you off the road rather than fall a second behind. You cannot possibly say you have never seen an idiot truck drivers either on the job or when you are traveling in you personal vehicle, no matter years of experience. Your tall tale makes one presume you are one of those idiot drivers. Likewise I have seen normal traffic be just as much to blame for an accident or a "close call". It is not the vehicles it is people sitting behind them that has something more important to do than keep their eyes on the road. 95 percent of "accidents" could have been prevented by simple little things such as... HANG UP THE @AMN PHONE WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING!!!!
