Paving work and other improvements began Tuesday on the West 17th Street bridge in Huntington. The bridge will be closed for the next 30 days. Crews will work around the clock - in two 12 hour shifts to complete the work before the deadline.

A times Tuesday, the traffic detouring over the Robert C. Byrd bridge in Huntington was backed up for more than a mile. Ohio DOT officials say roughly twenty five thousand cars use the West 17th Street Bridge on an average day.

Traffic into Huntington from Ohio was routed across the Robert C. Byrd bridge and detoured down 4th and Washington Avenues to I-64. Traffic from I-64 was routed down Adams and 5th Avenues to the Robert C. Byrd bridge to Ohio Route 7 and US 52.
