Huntington, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Low-cost airline Allegiant Air announced Tuesday it will offer nonstop jet service to Orlando International Airport beginning February 16, 2010.
Previously, the carrier provided nonstop service from Huntington to Orlando via the Orlando-Sanford International Airport. The low-fare carrier will celebrate the convenient new service with introductory fares as low as $59.99 each way, when purchased at an Allegiant Air airport ticket counter.
Robert Ashcroft, vice president of planning for Allegiant Air, said, “Moving service from Orlando-Sanford to Orlando International accomplishes two things for Allegiant. First, it allows us to be responsive to the many Tri-State travelers who prefer the proximity of Orlando International to the most prominent attractions in the Orlando area, including, most obviously, Walt Disney World. Second, it improves our position relative to competitors with service to Orlando International.”
Flights begin February 16, departing Huntington at 10:35 a.m. arriving in Orlando at 12:30 p.m. The flight will depart Orlando at 8 a.m. arriving in Huntington at 9:55 a.m. Allegiant Air provides nonstop service from Huntington to three other vacation destinations: Tampa Bay, Fla., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
“Passengers traveling from the Tri-State area will now have closer access to the many theme parks and attractions in the Orlando area,” Jerry Brienza, director of Tri-State Airport, said. “Orlando International also offers convenient shuttles to numerous sites, including the cruise lines operating from Port Canaveral.”
Allegiant’s $59.99 one-way introductory fare is limited, must be purchased by Dec. 16, 2009 and is valid for travel through May 31, 2010. Introductory fares are not available on all flights. After the introductory fare period, regular one-way fares on the route start as low as $79.99 one-way.
Latest Comments
I won't fly Allegiant due to the fact that their pilots are underqualified and underpaid, you get what you pay for.
I would much rather fly into Sanford. I fly there approximately 6 times a year and I am certain that service will not be as good at Orlando. Based on the comments its pretty obvious that most peop;e would prefer to leave it where it is at.
MCO is either horid or tolerable. Tolerable being when you happen to luck out and fly on a day or time that it's slow there. I find Sanford much more family friendly.
