79-Year-Old Earns GED
GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- An elderly woman is living proof it’s never too late to graduate.
At 79 years old, Martha McCoy just received her GED from the Greenup County Learning Center.
Friday night she was honored along with other recipients during a ceremony at Greenup Methodist Church.
McCoy, clad in cap and gown, also spoke at the ceremony about why it’s important to never lose sight of your goals.
"I may never get to use the knowledge I learned, but I'm sure glad I tried and succeeded,” she said while addressing her fellow graduates. “All of you are many years younger than I and will have more opportunity to use your education. Use it wisely."
McCoy also said she's grateful to live in a country where it's possible for an elderly person to receive an education.
