CHARLESTON, W.Va (WSAZ) -- There was a Holliday in Huntington Thursday, but Mountaineer fans aren't doing much celebrating.
At a press conference Thursday, WVU Associate Head Coach Doc Holliday was named Marshall University's new head football coach.
The reaction across the Mountain State is mixed: a joy to some, and a blow to die-hard WVU fans.
"I think he's enthusiastic and happy about it and he's just honored to be a head coach," said Doc Holliday's mother, Sally.
Sally said the holidays will be even more special now that her son is coming home. But fan love and motherly love are two very different things.
"I think it's a blow to the football program," said WVU fan, Chris Walls. "I think we'll still go to South Florida and recruit but you just hate to lose a guy like that...that's been in the business for so long."
Doc Holliday's switch of hands left some Charleston residents worried about their Mountaineers.
"They're strong, they've got good coaching," said WVU fan Tim Young. "So they'll probably pull someone in to replace him, not completely, but at least be there for support and stuff."
Another WVU fan said, "I'm pretty upset because he brings a lot of good recruits." Vincent Stricker said, "He was building for the future. It's going to be hard to replace a great coordinator like Doc."
While many WVU fans were disappointed by this change of possession, others thought the Doc may have always had always had the right formula. After all, mix WV gold and blue, you get Marshall green.
"You know he respects his time with West Virginia," said Sally Holliday, "I mean we're all West Virginians at heart but I think he'll give Marshall 100% and it'll be a real good contest. It'll be really interesting."
Doc's mother also tells WSAZ.com two of her children attended Marshall, which makes for one truly divided house.
Doc's father is also well known in the Kanawha Valley where he's currently serving as a Circuit Court Judge in Kanawha County.

I think mu should hired rick minter.
The previous comments where spoken by your "typical" WVU fans. I have always loved the "soundness" of their comments. It is good to see that maintain only the highest "intellect" in their fan base. Keep up the good work.
Bad hire for an awful team and a good move for WVU to get rid of this guy, wasn't doing much anyway and it will be good when Brown leaves he was a whiner who couldn't take a hit.
