Walgreens, or any business should be a welcomed addition to a community. The fact that it is a company that will employee local people with decent paying jobs is an added benefit. As a pharmacist, I welcome any addition of health care providers to our community. People need to open up their eyes and shut their mouths. We need to better our communities and our citizens. Walgreens is a great company with many health services far beyond retail pharmacies. They also provide home infusion services from a site in Ashland, KY that covers the whole tri-state area. Services such as those keep patients out of the hospital and in their homes to recover from illnesses, receive cancer treatment and other life-saving therapies. They also provide oxygen therapies and speciatly medications that can only be obtained thru limited suppliers. They also have skilled pharmacists and nurses to aid in patient therapies.
To Veronica: Did I say anywhere in my comment that I was going to boycott Walgreens? Read it again, YOU ARE the idiot. I for one am glad I can get such items there instead of the dirty book store or Budget. Read before posting.
Okay, I'll bite. Who is Ben Newhouse and why would he have any problems with a large pharmacy chain locating in Hurricane? As for the construction time, that is a good question. However, Walgreens operates more than just retail stores. They have a Take Care Clinic at the Toyota Buffalo Plant and at AK Steel in Ashland, I believe, as well as an infusion pharmacy in Ashland.
