MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Police say six middle school students were taken to hospital to be checked out following an accident involving two Dawson-Bryant school buses Wednesday morning.
The accident happened just past the 31 mile marker on I-64 near the Cabell-Putnam County line.
The middle school students were heading to Charleston for a field trip at the Clay Center in Charleston.
The Milton Police chief tells WSAZ.com the crash happened after a vehicle tried to pass the two buses on the interstate. The chief says that driver hit a patch of ice, lost control, struck a guardrail, and then hit another vehicle. A second vehicle then struck one of the buses.
When the second vehicle came off the bus, it was struck by a third vehicle that then hit the second bus.
Milton Police say one driver was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license.
Cabell County and Putnam County EMS squads responded to the scene.
ORIGINAL STORY
PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two school buses from the Dawson Bryant School District have been involved in a minor accident on Interstate 64 at the Cabell-Putnam County line.
Dawson-Bryant Superintendent Dennis DeCamp tells WSAZ.com that the buses were headed to the Clay Center in Charleston for a field trip when the accident happened after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A teacher on the bus tells WSAZ.com that several vehicles were spinning in the lane next to the buses and one of the cars grazed the buses.
The teachers say the bus drivers tried to avoid the vehicles.
DeCamp says several of the students were complaining of hitting their heads.
A school official on the scene of the accident tells WSAZ.com that several students asked to be taken to the hospital to be checked out.
A total of 85 students were on the buses; all were 7th graders. The buses took the students back to school following the crash.
Dawson-Bryant is located in Lawrence County, Ohio.
Black ice may have been a factor in causing the accident. The Cabell County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.

I wasn't there so I don’t know for sure, however, I have heard that it was like a circus when the local authorities showed up. Did kids really have to wait for care?
Funny that i never mentioned what school system lets children stand while the bus is moving & everyone thinks it is DB. I am so thankful no one was hurt! And I know & have family that drive a bus & i commend them that do.. But in my opinion & yes everyone has one & is allowed to have one. I worry about my childrens safety & safety belts. And everyone is allowed to express their opinion on anything. So thankful everyone was fine!!!
The drivers in Lawrence County take a 4 hr class beginging each school year. Plus training throughout the year. I think that the parents need to be educated in why there should not have seat belts in buses. If you have seat belts on buses the kids to have the access to go forward and hit a soft seat. If they are belted they would have no where to go. Therefore you are taking a risk in neck and stomach area dangers. If ever this was put on a ballot I would be the first the GO against selt belts. Look how high the kids are up. I have seen where a car front went under the bus. The car was totaled and the bus bumper only had paint from the car. Just go back to the bus accident in Chesapeake Monday see how the car was and no damage to the bus and the children were ok no need for hospital visit. Need to check web sites on bus accidents, with and without seat belts, More children are hurt with belts. WSAZ NEEDS TO DO A REPORT ABOUT SEAT BELTS ON BUSES JUST SO PARENTS CAN SEE. GO WSAZ
