CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Lincoln County woman has been sentenced for fraudulently receiving Social Security benefits.
Frances Maynard, 39, of Ranger, was ordered to serve six months on home confinement and five years probation during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Charleston.
Maynard was also ordered to pay more than $62,000 in restitution to the Social Security Administration.
Back in October, Maynard pleaded guilty to theft of public money.
The investigation revealed that Maynard filed a false claim with the Social Security Administration, claiming survivor’s disability benefits on a deceased person’s Social Security account on behalf of a minor child.
However, when Maynard applied for the benefits, she knew the deceased person was not the father of the minor child; therefore, she was not entitled to the benefits
