Sex Offender Registry Compliance Check in Four Counties

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A three day Sex Offender Registry compliance sweep in two West Virginia counties has wrapped up.

Between January 25th and January 27th, the West Virginia State Police, the United States Marshal Service, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Ripley Police Department, and Ravenswood Police Department conducted a Sex Offender Registry compliance sweep in Jackson and Mason Counties.

The following numbers relate to Jackson and Mason Counties respectively:

Jackson County:
57 Compliance Checks performed
47 Offenders compliant
4 Sex Offenders arrested
4 Offenders updated
8 non-sex offender warrants served

Mason County:
57 Compliance Checks performed
47 Offenders compliant
3 Sex Offenders arrested
0 Offenders updated
2 non-sex offender warrants served

The sweep was conducted simultaneously with a sweep occurring in Gallia and Meigs Counties in Ohio by the United States Marshal Service and Ohio law enforcement authorities.

In Gallia County, four out of 33 registered sex offenders were found to be out of compliance and facing possible local charges.

Four other people were arrested on other criminal charges including Jeffrey Watkins, one of Gallia's Most Wanted Fugitives.

In Meigs County, three were arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. 24 of the 35 were verified as being in compliance with registration requirement.

In addition, six other subjects were located and arrested based upon other criminal violations.
