HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Although Huntington is more than 1,500 miles from the island of Jamaica, Doreen Campbell is hoping to bridge that gap.
"We make authentic food," Campbell says. "It's a little bit of island flavor."
Doreen's a native of the island, but her son is a West Virginia State Police trooper. While visiting her son one day, she decided to gamble and try to open an authentic Jamaican restaurant called "Jamaica Cuisine". She got a lot of grief, at first, but fired back that "if it's the Lord's will," then she'd give it a try.
Her Charleston location has been open for nine months. Her Huntington location of "Jamaica Cuisine", located along 4th Avenue, has been open since around the holiday.
Down the street, Michael Bowe is hoping Huntington's primed for a new dining experience. Located in the West Virginia Building his restaurant has a menu that heavily focuses on local products -- pork raised in Mason County, W.Va., lamb from Parkersburg, W.Va., and trout from outside Beckley, W.Va.
The restaurant is called Huntington Prime. Bowe is hoping people don't just think of it as dinner but as a destination. His grand opening is
Wednesday, Feb. 3. You can check out his Web site by clicking on Featured Links here at WSAZ.com.

I like there mom & pop places vs. the huge chain operations. Jewell City Seafood is a great example. This is good news for Huntington and the area.
Thanks for posting the "obvious" after WSAZ added a video and put more information in the article. Appreciate it.
