CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A business in downtown Charleston is closing up shop after more than a decade of serving customers.

The owners of Empire Fur along Quarrier Street plan to close at the end of February.

One of the owners tells WSAZ.com a family illness has forced them to close their longtime establishment.

"It has been our livelihood," Sharon Belczyk said. "It's a circumstance we can not control."

Right now, the store is having a liquidation sale.

Belczyk tells WSAZ.com the storefront won't stay empty for long because the business has been sold. The new store will continue to sell furs, but also makeup, clothing and accessories.

The new owner has asked that her name be kept confidential at this time, Belczyk said. However, the new owner hopes to re-open the store by the end of March or first of April.

People who wear furs are like people who smoke; they stink! No one of any social standing would be caught in fur nowadys. Most intelligent people know they can not only keep warm, but look sharp and stylish without killing animals. Furs are for freaks.
