COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio transportation officials say $400 million in federal stimulus money for a new passenger train service should arrive by spring.
The state Controlling Board will need to approve spending the money. Democrats control the board 4-3, but they will need at least one Republican to vote yes because Senate Republicans placed an amendment in Ohio's transportation budget last year requiring a super majority vote.
GOP leaders have said they won't object to the train project as long as the state has a solid financial plan.
Ohio's project calls for a startup, 79-mph service connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati beginning in 2012. Studies are getting under way for a 110-mph service that would later connect to Chicago and cities on the East Coast.

are you kidding me that much money on a train.america needs to wake up and vote all these money spending morons out of office it's very clear that they don't have a clue on what there doing and they don't care so wake up people they have forgotten there the employees and your the employer so lets fire these losers before it's to late.
I am all for it. The reason people don't use rail much any more is because there is no dedicated passenger rail left in our part of the country. Amtrack has to use freight rails and freight always gets the right of way. I am all for expanded passenger rail. And more bus service as well.
Seems as if none of you have heard about the NAFTA corridor and this proposal is just a head start which many other states have already got a jump on Ohio. This will decrease the use of fuel which all comes into play with the green energy plans for the future and cutting he demand of foreign oil.It will create jobs someone has to build it but if they dont act now the side rails that run from the super corridor will be routed away and that will cost more in the delivery of goods You can research this by googling nafta corridor, see proposed routes many of the larger city's are begging for the route to run through their area this is going to be huge. Were talking rail jobs both commercial and commuter trucking jobs, transfer jobs and construction jobs building it.But if it is not started with this stimulus money Ohio could be by-passed all the way around no jobs at all and you have to admit any jobs are better than none or the govt could take the money back and some other state I say use it
