MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Lately the attention surrounding West Virginia University has been focused on the stands and not the basketball court.
Furthermore, the attention has been negative and unwanted. Last Tuesday, the crowd at the Pittsburgh game stole the spotlight with some bad behavior.

On Monday night, back in front of a national audience for the first time since the backyard brawl, Mountaineer fans had a chance at redemption or a repeat.
WSAZ.com's John Mulvaney was there.
"It was sad, cause I know we are better than that," WVU junior Taylor Richmond said of the situation at the former game, which included a negative chant. "We got a few bad apples, but we worked really hard to make sure the good continued today."
Bob McCoy, a 1960 WVU graduate, said he wants the bad apples to polish their act.
"Some of these chants and cheers with the vulgarity in front of the children and all that come to the games is unacceptable," McCoy said.
On Monday night, extra security was placed throughout the Coliseum, and the crowd was reminded that a simple text message could help tame anyone that was acting uncivilized.
The rematch between West Virginia and Pitt is scheduled Friday night in Pittsburgh.

i am a Moutaineer Fan in A Marshall area!! The trash mouths are on both sides. Be honest. Marshall fans dish out the trash, but dont like it when they get it back. Yes, things go on that shouldnt and things are said that shouldnt, but it is on both sides. I sat close to the MU Marhching Band at the WVU game, and I saw no one get mistreated. My daughter is in the MU Band. We were rooting for the Mountaineers, and everyone around us got along. Usually the troublemakers on both sides, are the drunks!! Quit selling beer at the games, and letting them in when they are plastered!! Dont blame all the fans over a few drunk jerks!! Still love the Mountaineers and Morgantown is no more of a hole than Huntington!!!
these rude fans need to be taken out of the stadium and punished. people like to cheer and get loud for their team, but cursing and throwing items is just plain ignorant. Every person who does this should be ashamed of themselves and are truly not mountaineer fans.
So you are saying that when we go to morgantown to support mu that it is okay that grown men thrown glass beer bottles at our heads and then walk over to us (a group of college girls) and pour the beer all over our heads?? that is very uncalled for if you ask me! but like you said, i guess it all goes "hand in hand"...right?
