CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A decision could be made Wednesday on the future of the Dow Chemical Technology Park in South Charleston.
According to a spokesperson at the Governor's Office, Dow set February 10 as the deadline for the state to make a decision.
Governor Joe Manchin has been trying to get the park donated to the state of West Virginia so it can be turned into an office and research center.
The plan ran into some opposition when talks arose about moving the State Lottery Commission to the site and annexing the park into the city of Charleston.
Both the city of South Charleston and Charleston have come out against the plan.
The Charleston Area Alliance, Charleston Alliance Zone and MATRIC Boards of Directors will meet Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to consider a resolution reiterating the importance of the South Charleston Technology Park to West Virginia's future economic prosperity.
According to a news release, many believe the project could generate hundreds, if not thousands of high value jobs, make the region highly competitive in research and development and create new opportunities for West Virginia's coal, natural gas and other leading industries.

The business these miscreants want to build in the area will poison us all every day, around the clock. No, we don't need the chemical industry any longer. Get over it.
To Melody - The people that are there will still work there. Do you realize that a vast amount of buildings and offices up there are not being used, sitting empty. This is a great option for building business in the area.
The City of South Charleston is NOT opposed to economic development! The Governor asked the city to annex the Dow property to Charleston. Clearly, this move would not be in the best interest of the city of South Charleston; in addition, Mayor Danny Jones indicated that he was NOT in favor of such an annexation. Please get your facts straight before you publish "news".
