UPDATE
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A Verizon spokesperson tells WSAZ.com that service was restored around 5 p.m. Wednesday
ORIGINAL STORY
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - A fire Wednesday morning has knocked out phone service to portions of eastern Lawrence County, Ohio.
Lawrence County 911 says the extended outage affects Verizon customers in the Proctorville, Rome Township, and Athalia exchanges, as well as some customers in Bradrick, Chesapeake and Union Township areas.
Christy Reap, a Verizon spokesperson says repairing phone service will take several hours as they wait to make sure the area is secure after the fire. They hope to have this fixed by Wednesday evening.
Reap says you should be able to call local numbers, but customers will not be able to call toll-free numbers or 911 from these phones.
911 is urging residents who need to call 911 for emergency assistance to use a cellular phone since their land line will not work.
They can also call 740-867-3157 for the Sheriff's Office or 1-800-282-7777 for Southeast Ohio EMS.
Latest Comments
the story says people will not be able to dial toll-free numbers or 911, but county officials recommend dialing a toll-free number untill 911 is restored. That sounds about right.
