IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- The latest round of winter weather has kept local 911 operators busy handling calls related to the cold, ice and snow.

Those calls, of course, include traffic accidents and people falling on slippery sidewalks and roadways.

Operators at the Lawrence County 911 center in Ironton, Ohio, say 80 percent of their recent calls have been weather related.

Officials with the 911 center in Cabell County, W.Va., are reporting a similar situation.

It isn't they have to work ICE these ppl work hard every day, they deal with wrecks, injuries, fires, and death so don't even go there until you have walked in their shoes..Like EMS Dude said turn on the TV and watch the bottom of the screen it gives you info on local school closings and road conditons, also you can sign up with the school board and be notified by them if the schools are on a delay or not in session..use your phone for your benefit and don't call 911 unless it is an emergency, not to ask for the Fire Dept to get Fluffy out of a tree, did you ever see a cat die in a tree because it couldn't get down, huh, I didn't think so...

Who couldn't have predicted that?

The biggest problem these 911 dispatchers, and dispatchers at the state troopers office and police departments have is, people making calls to ask what the roads are like, and even if schools are open! How can emergency calls get through? These places usually only have two or three lines to get calls on. If people are smart enough to dial a phone, they should be smart enough to turn on a tv or radio and wait ten minutes for the announcements. And despite what you might hear, the cops can't give you permission to stay home from work! Keep the phones clear for the people with the real emergencies!
