CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Kanawha County's chief prosecutor says he suspended an assistant who agreed to dismiss a petit larceny charge in exchange for the alleged victim being allowed to slap the defendant.
Prosecutor Mark Plants says he suspended Stewart Altmeyer without pay for one month after learning about the Feb. 3 incident.
Plants says the alleged victim, Deborah McGraw, told Altmeyer she would agree to drop charges against Dallas Jarrett if she could slap him once. Plants says Altmeyer jokingly conveyed the suggestion to Jarrett and his lawyer, who accepted.
Court records indicate the charge was dismissed on a motion by prosecutors.
Directory assistance had no telephone listing for Altmeyer.

Everyone seems to be getting a little chuckle from this and posting "what's wrong with this". Seriously, as stated by NOT AN IDIOT we have a justice system, as with all things it's not perfect. However, how do you justify settling one crime by committing another. Come on you guys are smarter than this. Take a look around the world in some countries if you steal regardless of the value you lose a hand, if you jaywalk you lose a leg. Everyone says big deal he was slapped ... that's assualt and it's a crime.
please post my comment...this boy and his family are no good....like i said if they had slapped his mother then we might have gotten a little justice...
