CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin wants Congress to know that Toyota still has plenty of friends in West Virginia.

Manchin sent a letter Friday to the top-ranking Democrat and Republican members of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The committee is investigating Toyota's recent safety lapses, which have resulted in the global recall of 8.5 million vehicles.

In his letter, Manchin praises the company for its commitment to West Virginia. Toyota's engine and transmission plant in Buffalo employs roughly 1,050 people.

Manchin says Toyota has donated time and money to causes ranging from the local YMCA to the state teacher of the year program.

The House oversight committee is one of several in Congress investigating Toyota.

Toyota is just one of the factors involved for the American economy. Toyota did not create jobs in United States. Because of Toyota and other foreign auto makers the U.S. actually lost jobs. The problem is with the american public. They have no pride nor do they care about this country. People have no common sense when it comes to how well a vehicle is really made. Back in the 70's and 80's people would buy these little tin can cars. They thought they were getting good deals because of it being cheaper priced than American made autos. Today they are still made with cheaper materials then the big 3 American brands. I used to be a auto mechanic. I have worked on a lot of different brands. When you see what lies beneath the sheet metal then you know what they are really made of. Also where do you think Toyota's profits go to? The goal of Toyota was to dominate America and use the public's stupidity to do it with. Stop foreign trade! Put the U.S. back to work. Buy and build in America.

I have found that TOYOTA plant in Buffalo WV is an great place to work. Unlike most people I like my job and want to go to work every day. They put Safety first then quality. Our job is to send out safe and quality parts ALL THE TIME to the consumer.I thought it was great for Toyota to shut down production in the affected areas. Kudos to TOYOTA.I think its crazy how the media and the Government are hounding this. Believe me if there is an issue Toyota will fix the problem and take responsibility. Furfthermore I see more Toyotas on the road on a daily basis than All others combined.(Heres YOUR SIGN!). There have been past reports with other Makes,Models as well! One last note we DID NOT GET A BAIL OUT! And we are still working to supply safety quality and top of the line vehicles!I do own two different Toyota vechiles. Best I've ever owned. I believe the gov. senators and congressmen of each state that Toyota has brought jobs by plants or suppliers rallie behind TOYOTA MORE THAN WHAT R!
