WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- More than 40 frustrated families in Wayne County continue to deal with a bad road slip about a year after they say it was first reported to the Division of Highways.
Parents on Big Branch Road say their repeated pleas have not been addressed properly, and their children's education is suffering.
While kids in other neighborhoods have had days away from school because of the winter weather, some kids on Big Branch have missed extensively because for about a month now, the school bus that runs its route has not gone past the slipping point.
"I understand that they have slips all over this county,” Loretta Thornhill said, “but when this is the only way in and out for 43 families, then it should be a priority. This should be something they fix first.”
State crews poured gravel on the damaged area Friday, but folks who live on the road say crews have already done that several times, and it's not solving the problem.
"They just come up here and quick-fix it with gravel,” Jennings Noble said. “They've been patching with gravel for six months now, and it's just not doing us no good at all."
"They keep telling us they're going to drive steel,” Thornhill said. “They told us back in June it would be three months, and they've still not come and done anything."
"As soon as the ground starts thawing real good again, it's gonna slip down again, gonna be real bad again," Noble said.
Some parents say they've been notified by the Board of Education that if their kids continue to miss school, the parents will be in danger of being fined, but they say without the bus running by their homes, they can't always get the kids there.
Officials with the Division of Highways did not return our calls Friday.

I know this is in wayne but I am speaking for wayne as well as cabell cause i travel in both countys where the roads are complete full of pot holes,etc..We pay a city user fee to live in the city I want to know where that money is going. They can uild all these new places but cant fix the roads at all.It makes our towns look like a disgrace and trashie.I remeber back when I was younger that the towns were not like this now its getting so bad that every wk your blown a tire, tore up your car,and who pays for it we have to.I know they have money to fix the roads there just to busy worry about there selfs not carring that the roads are getting unsafe to drive on.But i wish the city would answer me on where does that city user fee money go.They would probley lie or not comment of course..
the school bus's wont run on that road.the kids are being kept out of school because of this.i thought there was a law any time childerm's life were in danger cps steps in and takes the childerm away from the danger.those childerm need their education.is.nt there also a law if parents keep a child out of school they can be fined and go to jail.it looks like it may be awhile before this road is fix.or these kids could go on line to do their school work maybe that would work
We have the same problem over Greenbrier ck rd across the hill on the Mill Creek Road side. This is Very Dangerous even in a car. Please at least put up some signs since you aren't going to fix anything. I bet I can get a better photo of a slip here.
