Traffic Backed Up for Hours at Shopping Center
Shoppers in Charleston got more than they bargained for when many were left sitting in parking lots for more than two hours.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Valentine's Day Shoppers and revelers were out in droves Saturday and the proof was in the time they spent sitting in the parking lot.
Callers tell WSAZ.com they've been sitting in traffic for more than two hours trying to get out of the Trace Fork Shopping Center, that’s where Target and Lowes are located.
Callers say that drivers are forming their own lanes to try and get out of the traffic standstill and they fear an accident.
THF Reality owns and runs the property.
Andy Boyd is with THF and says that this weekend was the "perfect storm" so to speak.
He says the first non-snowy Saturday in a while, coupled with the Valentien's shoppers, and the simple fact that it's a weekend created the jam packed situation.
Boyd says in the ten year history of the plaza, this particular weekend has never been so packed and that there was no way to plan for this.
He says that during the holidays they hire off-duty police officers to help with traffic and they will continue to do that, especially as they work to get a second exit.
Boyd says his group apologizes for any inconvience. Adding they are working with with the highway dept and the city of South Charleston to get another entrance.
"A second entrance has always been a part of the master plan," Boyd says.
Saturday around 7p.m. off-duty police officers and sheriff's deputies made their way over to the plaza to help keep traffic moving.
Boyd says he encourages people to call the State Department of Highways and encourage them to speed up the process of getting that second entrance put in.

The traffic out there ALWAYS sux. If I need multiple stores or shops I take a few extra miles to Barboursville.
I agree with the person who brought up the landscaping problem. It's the same way at the Kanawha mall too. it's dangerous for people who can't see over it. I can't even count how many times I've almost been hit because I can't see past the shrubery. I go there to shop anyway, not look at the beautiful landscaping.
Kyle first off this is CHARLESTON not Columbus yes the traffic is worse there but again this is not Columbus also where is the grammar from? Columbus. Next the biggest problem with the traffic is the people - the people have made the holiday crazy. Every year my husband and I enjoy the day without the hype. We both enjoy the day together and make the evening very romantic. We have dinner at HOME without any phones, computer, or TV. (Sometimes we will watch a movie that we both have agreed on). The evening is very relaxed and enjoyable.
