POCA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The need for help continues in Haiti and some residents of Poca, West Virginia are helping out.
Most people have been donating things like food and money -- but these women are collecting tents and blankets.
"We just wanted to do something," Rhonda Brown said.
Brown owns two pharmacies in Poca. She solicited donations from both of them along with students from Cross Lanes Christian School.
"When they went to pack the back of my car it was jammed full," she said. "Those kids brought in everything."
Some of the most needed items right now in Haiti are blankets and tents, because many Haitians are living in the streets after their homes were destroyed by the earthquake.
Brown's friend Deonna Kemerer owns a flower shop in town, she has been helping, too.
"Here at the shop we gather canned goods and money," Kemerer said.
Kemerer is also selling homemade apple butter, with the money going toward relief funds.
Tents and blankets can be dropped off at the New Life Church in Huntington, folks there will make sure the International Missions Outreach get the items to take to Haiti.

Where are these places that help people or the middle man who live in run down shacks/houses in WV? Where can you get help in churches or places without filling out papers and giving your life history etc.? Good Will stores are a joke their prices are higher than dollar stores or Walmarts! Heart & Hand in So. Charleston has high prices! A big white 2 story building on Rt.60 as you go out through coal mountian is a strange weird kinda shady place, that needs checked out. Hear they are not connected to any churches. Donating to some of this places (Do Not) help people in need like so many people think they do ! It does help some greedy peoples big cash flow or bank accounts. People need to pay attention to who owns these places and how they are run before they donate things! A lot of people can't get help or go to Doctors/Dentist because they do not have insurance. These are people or families caught in the middle, they barely have enough to get by but not enough for what they need!
Great story! To the negative comments...How do you know they aren't currently or haven't already helped locally? I know the church one person attends JUST held a blanket drive and free health fair. There's never a justified reason to insult kind acts or kind people.
It seems to me that there are several programs around that supply the basic needs for most everyone in the US. Those that critize the Haitian relief probably have a cell phone, computer, and tv. These people did not have anything. IMO, through churches across the US, provides the children in their schools, with at least one meal a day and an eduction, more than most of the children in the entire nation. These people have been living in shacks for decades. I do not know how anyone with any compation could qustion why people want to help!
