CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The city of Nitro is expected to cut its budget by 2.5 percent -- nearly $80,000.
Mayor Rusty Casto tells WSAZ.com city revenues are down right now, but they could be as much as $50,000-$80,000 this year.
The mayor says three car dealerships have closed inside the city limits and profits are down at Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center. Both of these factors affect the city's business tax revenues.
The mayor hopes the new hotel at Tri-State will help offset the shortage, but he believes the city has to make measures now to be financially responsible.
That's why the mayor has asked the city's department heads to start looking at where the cuts can be made.
The mayor will meet with them on Monday to discuss the possible cuts.
Mayor Casto tells WSAZ.com city services will not be affected.
