ATHENS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- An Ohio University student has died, after being hospitalized earlier this week with a probable case of bacterial meningitis.

OU Spokeswoman Katie Quaranta tells WOUB that no other details are available at this time on the death of Andrea Robinson.

Robinson was a resident of Wray House on South Green.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bacterial meningitis can pass from one person to another through contact with saliva.

Another student, a sophomore Bromley Hall resident, was admitted to a Columbus hospital earlier this month with a probable case of bacterial meningitis as well.

Common symptoms of bacterial meningitis include fever, stiff neck and headache.

You are only partly correct Lucy. While not as contagious as the cold and flu, bacterial meningitis can be communicated through coughing or sneezing, to others in close proximity to the affected person. Normal flu precautions will fine work in most cases. You can check out the specifics at: http://www.cdc.gov/meningitis/about/faq.html

Bacterial Meningitis is actually not contagious through the air. It only lives outside the body for a few minutes. You usually have to come in contact with it through bodily fluid like saliva to contract the disease.
