CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The 14-year-old charged in the death of a woman from Charleston will now be sentenced as an adult.
Thomas Mallo pleaded guilty Thursday to second degree murder in the death of Phillis Phares.
The murder happened last summer at her home along Frame Street.
Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants tells WSAZ.com Mallo's case has been transferred to adult status, but the media was not allowed in the plea hearing.
"Anytime a juvenile commits an adult type crime, they ought to be treated like an adult," Plants said. "It's a heinous crime, it was a tragedy."
Mallo and Phillis were neighbors at the time of the murder.
The investigation into this murder has also landed four other members of the Mallo family behind bars on unrelated charges.
"I would say in my entire career, this was the most disturbing crime scene that I've dealt with," Sergeant S.A. Cooper said.

I KNEW MRS PHARES,A VERY SWEET SWEET LADY.AND I THINK THOMAS MALLO SHOULD BE LOCKED UP UNTIL MRS PHARES COMES HOME.
she was really just about his only friend and she embarassed him...thats not cool and again im not saying its right he does need to surve time but he also need LOTS of help.
I know this child personaly. and if you dont then shut up because if you knew what this kid has been threw and what this old woman did to him then you would prob. understand why he did this. im not saying its right but he needs help not locked up. he was always made fun of and had NO friends. you see the people he spent most of his time around and where are they? this old lady embarassed him infront of other kids that were making fun of him. she went right along with the children and hurt his feeling and he snaped. she should have never put her nose into what was going on with the other kids and NO ADULT no matter what age should ever make fun of a kid this kid has speech problems and learning problems. she hurt him in front of kids his age that he already had problems with. this kid was not a kid that started fights he stayed to himself and always seamed kinda say. he is behind bars and is prob more happy there not being picked on and hit. hes being fed somthing he only had at school
