FRANKLIN FURNACE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- It couldn't happen to a nicer, more deserving guy.
That's what his buddies are saying about a local high school student who hit the lottery -- for a pretty big haul.
It's not that he wasn't well liked already, but now Billy Moore is the big man on campus at Green High School. The senior turned 18 on Monday, and on Tuesday he went to the Lloyd, Kentucky BP and bought his first legal lottery ticket -- and it hit.
"I scratched it off. I screamed and so did my dad," Moore said. "I thought he was going to have a heart attack."
Moore won $40,000. That's a cool $27,600 after taxes.
Moore says he has big plans for his big bucks. "Buy a car, give some to my parents and use the rest for college," he said.
Before the lottery win, Moore says his spirits were kind of low. The life long student athlete suffered a serious injury -- causing him to miss his senior year of football.
"I tore my ACL, missed the season," he said. "I was feeling down."
They say money can't buy happiness, but Billy Moore's response: "It doesn't hurt."
Moore says he's not planning on buying any more lottery tickets right away. He says he doesn't want to jinx the money that he won on that first and only ticket purchase.

Wow! Way to go billy!!
it is sad,,taxs should not be taken out on a set amout for everyone,,it should be on income per year of the family that wins it...
Thats great that he won instead of someone who didn't need it this time. Hope he keeps having this kind of luck and he spends it wisely and not all in one place.
