Pit Bull Lovers Challenge Breed Specific Law
Two months ago, the Putnam County Commission voted two to three to put restrictions on pit bulls and other dogs they deemed vicious. Now, those dogs are supposed to wear muzzles in public and have specific cages in their yards.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A controversial dog law in Putnam County brought a lot of concerned residents to voice their opinion at a special County Commission meeting Thursday night.

Two months ago, the Putnam County Commission voted two to three to put restrictions on pit bulls and other dogs they deemed vicious. Now, those dogs are supposed to wear muzzles in public and have specific cages in their yards.

"It really punishes the good owners," resident Ami Hayes said. "There's a witch hunt going on with pit bulls."

Commissioner Steve Andes voted in favor of the dangerous dog law, but says public input is still important and could possible change the breed specific laws.

Commissioner Haynes made a motion to take the breed specific language out of the law, but the motion didn't get a "second" from the other two commissioners so it died.

actually i also have a pitbull an its the most loving dog i had ever had and its around kids 24/7 and there is never a problem he licks the kids faces and and every thing one thing why (some) are mean is because the way people raise their dogs for example if you let the dog jump up on you when its little even though its kinda cute but still when the dog grows up it thinks that its ok to do that it really doesnt know better unless you treat the dog the same its whole life.

I for one own a pit. He is very smart, very playful and very well behaved! I am so sick of people saying they are mean dogs when really the only reason most are afraid of them is because they are uneducated with the breed! They watch too much tv and do what everyone else wants them to do about the issues! ALL dogs can be aggressive in the wrong hands! That is what the problem is with these dogs when not properly raised! People are bitten EVERYDAY by other breeds and you don't see anyone wanting to ban them!!! I can't believe this crap!! Its ridiculous!

I believe people need to be realistic with the dog they have despite breed. Look at the dogs temperment. If your dog is unstable, they are more likely to bite. This stability, or unstability comes from genetics. I'm willing to gurantee that an unstable, timid lab is going to bite way before a stable american pit bull terrier. The real issue is the people who own unstable fear biters, yet claim that they own the greatest dog ever. I have owned several bully breeds, a few of which were unstable. Because I was able to identify this I was way more cautious about who they were let around. Stable and confident dogs do not attack unless they are threatened. Unstable timid dogs will attack at the drop of a dime. People must be realistic with their dogs temperment and act accordingly. All dog owners, not just Bully Breed owners.
