PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- If dogs are man's best friend, one man from Portsmouth sure has connections.
Most folks didn't know about James Dalton's life passion, until it filed in at the World's Most Famous Arena.
"It's been my secret life outside of Portsmouth until now," Dalton said. "I have been breeding and showing dogs since I was a child, when I grew up in Ireland. I had my first best of show winner when I was 14-years-old."
Now Dalton has another trophy for his case. His french bull dog Bru won best of breed and best in the non-sporting group at the 134th Annual Westminster Dog Show.
Bru made breed history with his best in the non-sporting group. He was the first French Bull Dog in 113 years to do so.
For dogs like Bru, it's a life on the road. As soon as he was finished at Westminster in New York City he headed out to California, hoping for a win in another competition.
Bru is just two years old, but in dog years that means retirement is just a bark away.
"At the end of the year, Bru will come home and curl up on the sofa and just be a wonderful much loved pet," Dalton said. "Maybe he'll be a daddy to some super stars of his own -- after his teenage years, maybe he'll settle down."
Dalton breeds French Bull Dogs. He says he has sold dogs to people from here at home to as far away as the Middle East. He says selling dogs is like an adoption process, and he thoroughly interviews every candidate.
