More WV Troops Heading to Afghanistan
About 275 members of a National Guard unit based in Parkersburg will depart Monday for predeployment training before heading to Afghanistan.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- About 275 members of a National Guard unit based in Parkersburg will depart Monday for predeployment training before heading to Afghanistan.
Specialist Anna-Marie Hizer of the West Virginia Army National Guard said solders from the 1092nd Engineer Battalion will train at Fort McCoy, Wis., for about 45 days. Their deployment to Afghanistan will last about a year.
The 1092nd will be the headquarters for a group of engineer battalions, serving as command and control for units from six states. The battalion will be involved in construction, including building roads, infrastructure and support facilities for the troops.
The last deployment for the battalion was 2003-2004 when the unit spent a year in Iraq.

My son is one of the ones from 1092d going to Afghanistan. I do wish all of these soldiers the best of luck and to come home safe.
