CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A federal judge and newspaper editor, and a former mayor and beauty contestant will be honored for championing the cause for humans rights in West Virginia.

State Human Rights Commission Director Ivin Lee said 15 people will be honored Thursday at West Virginia State University as part of the annual Governor's Civil Rights Day.

The honorees include U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, Charleston Gazette Editor James A. Haught, former Clarksburg Mayor James C. Hunt and Jada Hunter of Chattaroy in Mingo County, who successfully fought for hiring black teachers in schools and in 1968 became the first black to compete in the Miss West Virginia Pageant.

This year's honorees will join 130 others similarly recognized in years past.
