NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- City of Nitro leaders will come to the table Monday morning with the proposed cuts they are willing to make to their department's budgets.

Mayor Rusty Casto says the discussions will happen as a part of a regular staff meeting.

With a couple of businesses closing in Nitro City limits, and the hotel motel tax not bringing in as much as expected, the Nitro's City Treasurer says it's time to trim the city budget by about 2.5%.

Mayor Rusty Casto says city revenues are down this year and possibly next year by an estimated $50,000 to $80,000.

We will let you know more about the cuts after Monday's meeting.

Maybe we shouldnt have spent half a mil on 16 new police cruisers, thats probably where we should make some cuts, we spend way way too much money on a big city police force for a 5 mile town. People avoid even driving through a speedtrap town, no one I know, of all ages, ever wants to be in Nitro. We dont have a Summersville lake, people wont spend money here if they dont even want to drive through. We should also probably get on developing the industrial park for some sort of business development. Once other states legalize table games and gambling we wont be able to count on that money at all, yes, unfortunately, people would rather go to Ohio than WV. We could renovate the Community center to attempt to attract offices and smaller businesses, enhance the lake area with activities for adults and children alike. There are so many missed opportunities.

I agree with taxpayer totally on his or her comment. I would bet Nitro ranks very high on the corruption list.

If they are having trouble now just wait until Rite-aid closes their warehouse the rest of the way down... That will be alot more lost tax dollars and B & O taxes .....Taxpayer you are right, why would anyone spend large amounts of money in this state there is not much around here to offer anymore...I'm looking to move out of WV in the very near future:(
