UPDATE /10/19/10 @ 3 p.m.
MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man from Calhoun County faces life in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing a couple at their home last year.
Kirk Miller pleaded guilty to two first degree murder charges during a court hearing Monday in Mason County. The crime happened on April 14, 2009 at Micheal and Julie Flanagan's home along Left Fork Road near Millstone in Calhoun County.
The prosecutor tells WSAZ.com Miller owned a shotgun that Mr. Flanagan wanted to buy. Flanagan already owed Miller money so Miller decided if Flanagan told him he would buy the gun, he would shoot him, according to court records.
On April 14, Flanagan offered to buy the shotgun and Miller shot him three times, according to the prosecutor. When Flanagan's wife asked what was going on, Miller shot her twice. Both victims died at the scene.
Miller is also accused of taking prescription drugs and two pistols from the Flanagan's home.
During Monday's hearing about a dozen members of the Flanagan family were present, along with Miller's mother and two sisters. They were quiet during the hearing.
Miller is set to be sentenced on December 3 at 10 a.m. This hearing will be held in Roane County. As part of the plea agreement, Miller faces 15 years to life in prison on each charge. Miller's sentence on each charge will run consecutively, meaning he will serve no less than 30 years before he is eligible for parole.
Monday's hearing was in Mason County because Circuit Court Judge David Nibert serves the 5th district, which includes Calhoun, Roane, Mason and Jackson counties.
