UPDATE @ 3:45pm
ELKVIEW, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A traffic mess along Interstate 79 near Elkview Monday afternoon after several different cars crashed all within a matter of minutes.
The accidents happened just before 3:00 p.m. near the Frame Road exit.
Police say the driver of a truck was heading south when he ran off the road, causing the vehicle to flip several times.
The woman driving the truck was taken to the hospital, but we don't know her name or condition. That accident backed up traffic on the southbound side of the interstate.
Then, a van traveling north lost control and crossed the median and crashed into a dump truck and two other cars that were stuck in traffic. Four people were hurt.
The southbound lanes were closed for a while as crews cleaned up all the accidents.

I'd like to know why there wasn't readings of the articles and watching of the news channels before these assumptions were made. And the accident was cause by people not being attentive to the road infront of them. The rubber necker was watching the road beside him irresponsibly. After analysis of the wreck, the driver of the white car took the best choice of many bad options, most of which would have resulted in death. I commend him for the choice that he made.
What I would like to know is why is it automatically assumed speed and cellular phones caused this accident, and my other concern is what caused the accident with the van, where due you begin to stop traffic on the Interstate?
No matt, cell phones and speed were not the cause. The driver of the van was sideswiped by a white car who had to slam on his brakes due to a rubber necker looking at the original crash on the other side of the road. The driver and passenger of the van were released with minor injuries. So your guess is somewhat wrong. Speed was an issue, or lack thereof. People need to keep a constant speed while traveling on the interstate and not slow down suddenly to 40 MPH for no reason other than to twist their necks backwards to witness something unfortunate that is already being taken care of on the other side of the road. The unfortunate part is that the white car slammed into the van instead of into the car which was the true hazard.
