CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A property owner on Charleston's East End is standing in the way of a new park near Laidley Field.

The Charleston Urban Renewal Authority (CURA) already has bought five of the six lots needed to build the park along Dixie Street.

But the owner of the largest parcel of land has turned down CURA'S offer to buy it for $105,000. The King family is asking for $326,000 for the property.

CURA already has begun demolishing several buildings in the area to make way for the park. They plan to meet with City Council members on Thursday to discuss the issue.

NOW REMEMBER, CURA WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR A NEW "DOLLAR GENERAL" STORE ON THE EAST END, BUT ALL FOR A PARK.... OFFICIALS HAVE GOT TO STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THIS BS.

They keep "taking" property from East End residents. If anyone remembers the East End use to be a great community. Instead of trying to build a park - which I like - why don't they "buy" property for a grocery store.

The property owner can charge whatever he wishes for his property. This is not a case where the government HAS to have his property to build a road or something necessary. It's for another park and they do not even take care of the ones already built. Pay the man for his property, it's the only right thing to do.
