CEREDO, W.Va (WSAZ) - Fire damaged a 12-unit apartment building in Ceredo, W.Va. early Tuesday morning.
The building was on Greenwood Drive, that's right behind the Ceredo Post Office.
Dispatchers say everyone inside got out. The fire was reported about 3:30 Tuesday morning.
Clinton Burley, a spokesperson for the Ceredo Fire Department, says the fire originated in the wall of a lower floor apartment. He believes it was electrical in nature.
Burley says the person in that apartment then began alerting others in the building concerning the fire.
He says six apartments suffered direct damage from the fire. The other six apartments have some smoke and water damage.
One tenant tells WSAZ.com that they were told the fire started in a basement furnace.
They say the building's owner is working to find replacement housing for those displaced by the fire.
Fire departments from Kenova and Lavalette were called in to help.

In response to concerned citizen's post on 2/28/10. I would like to know where you got your information about the slanderous remarks against the members Kenova VFD? My family serves on that department, and I am highly offended by the remarks you have made. I think that you need to get your story straight before you start posting such harsh, false accusations.
i was in the second floor right above the apartment that caught fire. i had thought i lost everything until i went to look for my kitten emiko. and found out we could go inside. and i found her dead in my room. it was just me and my 13 month old daughter alone that night to wake up to a bang on my door fire. and i thought it was a joke at first. bc kids up stairs would run up and down all night and keep us up. but i went out side to look at the power lines. and heard a poping sound in my kitchen so i ran into my little girls room and grabbed her and left. thankful we made it out okay. and along with everyone else. we lost our kitchen and living room but everything in mine and my moms bed room was fine just some smoke damage.
I am one of these people that were affected by this fire and I want to first say that I am very thankful that none of us were hurt. I also want to thank all fire departments that were involved. I hope that all families that were affected get the help that they deserve and wish them luck through this rough time. I want to also say that none of the smoke detectors went off in my apartment or in my side of the building, and I am just grateful that I was still awake at the time that this occured because me and my family might have not been so fortunate. I am not going to take this time to list all of the things that could have been and should have been fixed because all tenants know about that whole situation, but I do want to say that I hope that future tenants have better luck as far as living in safe homes with all things working correctly. I mean isn't that what we all should have deserved in the first place
