HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people were sentenced to prison Monday for distributing drugs in the Huntington area.

During a hearing in U.S. District Court, Tracey Robbins, 31, of Huntington was sentenced to 70 months imprisonment and fined $2,000 for conspiring to distribute over 50 grams
of cocaine base.

Robbins pleaded guilty to charge in November.

Prosecutors say Robbins was part of a drug trafficking ring responsible for bringing crack cocaine from Detroit, Michigan to the Huntington area and elsewhere from November 2007 to November 2008.

In her plea, Robbins admitted her involvement in storing drugs and money at her Huntington residence at the direction of other members of the drug ring. She also admitted to selling cocaine base in Beckley.

In an unrelated case, Aaron Ferguson, 22, of Huntington was sentenced to 70 months in prison for distributing cocaine base.

Ferguson pleaded guilty to the charge in August 2009.

Prosecutors say that in April 2008, Ferguson distributed a quantity of crack cocaine to a confidential informant working with the Huntington Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.

The controlled drug transaction took place in the parking lot of a Huntington pharmacy.

A system where we focused on rehabilitating drug offenders would work better than locking them away. If we also took away the sanctions on educational loans, housing, and employment they may have an easier time contributing to society too...which means...and this may be shocking to some...they might be less likely to sell drugs. Keeping people in jail for an extended period of time doesn't really solve anything at all. People rarely learn anything in prison anyways...they just go back out, and get put back in again. Also, if we legalized some of the more soft core drugs...like Marijuana...less people would get into heavier stuff in the first place.

personally I dont give a crap if it helps them to be in prison. You can have my tax dollars just to lock them up and make the streets a little safer. These people will shoot you or your family for their next fix.

These druggies don't even realize they being punished in our jails. Gyms, tv's (with court ordered cable), housing, medical, food, college, all supplied by the taxpayer. Some punishment is in order,& some jail time to sober up away from codependent friends and family members. But, judges need to court order them to get real jobs, with frequently scheduled drug tests that are payroll deducted until they can prove that they are no longer a danger and a burden to society. Locking the drug user up just inforces the poor-me mentality most of them already have. Give them a reason to improve their situations instead of learning from more criminals behind bars.
