CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Construction on the damaged EMAS System at Yeager Airport in Charleston is expected to get underway next week.

The weather has delayed the process since the system was damaged Jan. 9.

The plane was about to take off when the pilot slammed on the brakes. It caused the plane to skid into the airport's emergency stopping system.

No one was hurt in that incident, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is still investigating the incident.

Airport officials say the repairs can't be made when snow or rain is in the forecast. The crew fixing the system also does not want to stop on the project until it's finished.

167th Airlift Wing Moving to Charleston
Another military group will be joining the 130th Airlift Wing at Yeager Airport in Charleston.

100 members of the 167th is expected to move from Martinsburg to Charleston sometime this summer.

According to a spokesperson, the AERO Medical EVAC Squad works better out of C-130s than C-5s that are currently stationed in Martinsburg.

Airport Director Rick Atkins tells WSAZ.com no major changes will have to be made at the airport, but it will be nice to have a medical staff on site in case of an emergency.

More Afghanistan Tours Expected
Bill Peters with Military Affairs says more local troops will be called to serve overseas.

Peters expects several more groups will be deployed to Afghanistan this summer.
