CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota) will be the keynote speaker at the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
The dinner is set for April 17 at the Charleston Civic Center.
“I consider Tom a dear friend and I am truly honored that Senator Daschle has accepted my invitation to deliver this year’s annual JJ Dinner keynote address,” Gov. Joe Manchin said. “Tom will give West Virginians an inside, candid look into Washington and Congress. I am confident that his speech will be both enlightening and engaging.”
Tom Daschle was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 1978 where he served eight years. He was elected to the US Senate in 1986 and chosen as Majority Leader in 1994.
According to a news release, Senator Daschle is one of the longest serving Senate Democratic Leaders in history and the only one to serve twice as both Majority and Minority Leader.
Daschle now serves as a Senior Policy Advisor at DLA Piper.
“Senator Daschle and our JJ Dinner will help kick-off the 2010 election year,” West Virginia State Democratic Party Chairman Nick Casey said. “Senator Daschle worked well with our state's congressional delegation throughout his tenure. He will bring his many years of Capitol Hill experience to our dinner and will offer us a frank conversation about the inner workings of politics. We are sure to have an exciting night.”
Tickets for the JJ Dinner can be purchased by calling the State Democratic Party HQ at 304-342-8121.
Tickets are $75 each or $1,000 to reserve a table of 10 seats. Tickets are on a first-come, first served basis.

They're scapping the bottom of the barrel on this one. The people in his own state got rid of him and he's the featured speaker. Rocky should take notice on what happened to Daschle, hopefully we can see him find the same fate.
Wasn't he just disqualified last year from holding a position in the Obama cabinet on account of being a tax cheat? Well, he would have fit right in. One thing about it, Daschle is the most concerned man in America, hands down.
They need to make sure they PERSONALLY deliver the 1099 form to Tom and MAKE HIM SIGN FOR IT!!! We don't want him to get jacked up on taxes again!!!!! His defeat in the 2004 election, in the midst of a Democratic resurgence mind you, was the first time that a Senate party leader had lost a seat since 1952. Couldn't they get ANYBODY better? WV must not rate high in national Democratic circles if this is they best they can do.
