W.Va. Agency Issues Permit for Coal-to-Gas Plant

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia regulators have approved
an air pollution permit for a proposed coal-to-gasoline plant in Mingo County.

The state Department of Environmental Protection said Friday its Division of Air Quality issued the permit to New York-based TransGas Development LLC.

The facility, to be built near Wharncliffe, is expected to turn 3 million tons of coal a year into methanol that would then be converted into as many as 756,000 gallons of gasoline a day.

The air quality permit is the only one TransGas has sought so far, but the DEP says more will likely be required as the process continues.

Environmentalist groups opposed the permit, saying the plant will contribute to air pollution and other problems.

So in other words this coal to fuel transfer station will only supply gasoline to less than twenty medium to large stations- by volume. Do a quick check to see exactly how many tens of thousands of gallons that places do such as the ones in Hurricane and near St. Albans. It's a nice start but it barely scatches the surface of the apple. The real future is hydrogen not gasoline

This is exactly the kind of thing we should have been into long ago...for far too long we have relied way too heavily on "unfriendly"oil resources,we need to support the UNITED STATES and the resources it has.Coal is a fairly abundant US resource ,provides jobes to US peopleand is needed to make power and also can be used to manufacture a gasoline and even a manufactured gas so we need to use what we have...enviromentalists I am sure will nake every effort to destroy this as they do EVERYTHING.
