Friday Marked the 38th Anniversary of the Buffalo Creek Disaster
While our region dealt with snow Friday, 38 years ago on Feb. 26 a devastating flood killed 125 people.

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- While our region dealt with snow Friday, 38 years ago on Feb. 26 a devastating flood killed 125 people.

The Buffalo Creek Flood also left more than 4,000 people homeless.

On Feb. 26, 1972, a coal-waste dam in Logan County collapsed during heavy rain, unleashing millions of gallons of water. A wall of sludge, debris and water came crashing down into the valley below.
