Families Trying to Adjust After Devastating Fire
Losing everything is never easy, and starting over is even harder for one family preparing for a new addition.

CEREDO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Twelve families lost their homes after a fire did some serious damage to an apartment building on Greenwood Drive in Ceredo early Tuesday morning.
The fire came at a particularly bad time for one woman who's preparing to start a family.
Friends and family recently threw a baby shower for Jackie Blankenship, who is due to give birth March 17. Now all of the gifts are destroyed.
“It's an overwhelming thing to deal with,” Blankenship said. “You're pregnant and due any time and was just settling in and getting stuff ready for a new baby, and now you have to do it all over again."
Blankenship had just moved into the building about a month ago with her boyfriend. She says as bad as the timing was, she's grateful the fire happened before the baby was born.
"I'm really glad I didn't have the baby yet because that would have been horrible to try to carry a baby down through so much smoke,” she said. “Anything could have happened, it could have killed the baby or anything, so I'm really glad she decided to stay in long enough to not be here for it."
Blankenship says friends and family and others in the community have been helpful after the fire, donating items for the child.
Now she's just hoping to have a new place to live before the baby arrives.
She also says she’s very thankful for a tenant named Tommy Workman who knocked on her door and made sure she and her boyfriend got out of the building the morning of the fire.
The building's landlord says the fire started in the basement because of an electrical problem.

Having some kind of renters insurance is afforfable and should be a social responsibility.Life is not a FREE ride -fire is awful and we all hope we never have one BUT a renters policy of some value gives something to start over with. There are far too many people that actually could afford (some)renters insaurance but they would rather take the free ride and "let someone else provide for them" this is a growing problem-social irresponsibility-
Kenova United Methodist Church is helping.....accepting donations for the family. Thank you. Bless all of those families....and bless all those who help them,
Is actually quite affordable. I pay approx. $130 per year for a $25000 policy. It actually almost pays for itself because I get a discount on the car insurance for multiple policies.
