COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio leaders say the state was unfairly omitted from a new $1.5 billion federal program to fight mortgage foreclosures.
President Barack Obama says the money is going to housing agencies in the five hardest-hit states of Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan and Nevada.
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray on Friday sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner urging the administration to add Ohio. A record 89,053 foreclosures were filed in Ohio in 2009.
Phyllis Caldwell, who heads the Treasury Department Homeownership Preservation Office, says the newly announced program is part of a broader housing stabilization effort. She says Ohio has received more than $145 million in neighborhood stabilization grants.

Hey Anonymous: Those people did overextend themselves even though they did lose jobs, looks like they didn't plan for the future. I keep reading in the news that all kinds of jobs are availiable in the tri state(census workers as an example), but I forgot they don't pay $100,000 per year so no one will take them. I do fully agree with Rousemount Resident in that every one should read the Bible, I think it states that you are supposed to carry your own load and support "only" those in need which would be very few. We all have to agree that welfare is way to big in America!
Hey Mr. Buckeye did you forget about all the people that has lost their job? Did you stop and think that maybe they didn't overextend themselves that had they not lost their job they would be fine? Don't be so judgemental you don't know the whole story. Like Rousemount Resident said EVERYONE READ YOUR BIBLE.
Well, doesn't look like anyone can explain why it is OK to TAKE from one citizen and give to another citizen. Perhaps they are beginning to understand that it is wrong. Perhaps that is why the Tea Party movement is gaining such ground.
