UPDATE: March 20
SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A grieving family lost more than just their home in a fire earlier this month.

One-year-old Savanha Mae was killed after an improperly installed wood stove caused fire to spread quickly through a house in Scioto County, and although life will never be the same for this family folks in the community are showing support in a big way.

"As soon as I saw the smoke, I started grabbing kids," Robert Stone said. "I thought all three of them were in front of me."

Stone made it out of his home with two of his children, but one-year-old Savanha was still inside.

Adrian Turner went to high school with Robert. She said when she heard about what happened, she had to help out.

"You see bad stuff happening all the time on the news," Turner said. "this one hit really close to home."

Turner works for Ohio Builder's Surplus in Scioto County. She and her coworkers are remodeling a mobile home donated by the Amherst Partners. They say it will be as good as new and ready for the Stone family in a few weeks.

"Any time we can help anybody we would like to," said Nikki Thoroughman with the Ohio Builder's Surplus. "I'm glad we get the opportunity to help these people. I have kids myself, I can't imagine going through what they've went through."

While nothing will ever replace what the Stone family has lost, they say they are deeply grateful for the support.

"It feels wonderful to have our own place again, but the loss of her," Savanha Mae's mother Amber Stone said, "it's gonna be hard at first without her."

"We're gonna have to start out without her, but she'll always be with us," Robert Stone said.

The Stones said they did not have smoke detectors in their home. They say they urge everyone who reads or hears their stories to make sure they have working detectors so no other family has to go through what they did.
