U.S. Census Underway; Workers Needed Locally
On Monday, some Charleston residents started to receive their 2010 Census forms, nearly two weeks in advance of the rest of the nation.

CHARLESTON, W.Va (WSAZ) -- The U.S. Census Bureau is hoping you have 10 minutes to answer 10 questions in 2010.
Monday started the push for the 2010 census. For those who live in rural areas, a door-to-door campaign kicked off.
While a majority of households will receive their 2010 Census forms in the mail from March 15 to 17, Charleston residents are part of select group of our nation’s housing units (less than 10 percent) that lack city-style addresses with house numbers and street names.
Between March 1 and March 31, Census takers will deliver forms to these mostly rural areas. A worker will visit each housing unit, update the address on the Census list, and leave a form packaged in a plastic bag at the home’s main door.
To get the job done as quickly and as thoroughly as possible, the U.S. Census Bureau is still hiring part-time workers. The Charleston branch office covers 18 counties. Of those 18, only two are fulled staffed. That means part-time jobs that pay well still are available in the other 16 counties.
"We're still heavily recruiting Census jobs throughout West Virginia and we're hoping people apply to help us complete the Census in West Virginia," says Richard Hartman who runs the U.S. Census Office in Charleston.

I know many who work for the state gov who wanted to apply but we were told we were not allowed as it was a conflict with our current job. So I guess we have to stay poor. Maybe we should just apply for the gov subsidized benefits instead.
HERE I HEARD IT WOULD BE LOCALLY AND ITS NOT ITS FOR COUNTIES LIKE WYOMING CO. NOT BECKLEY WHO NEEDS IT.....
There has to be a more efficient way than this. First postage is paid for a letter saying I will be contacted by Census workers. Then census workers leave a form on my door that could have been sent in the mail. Why not mail them in the first place using data from the electrical utility companies to get the addresses? Millions spent on advertising and millions wasted otherwise. I know I could do this better than the government is doing.
