CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power say they're seeking an 8.2 percent rate increase in West Virginia.
The companies say the request filed Monday with the state Public Service Commission is the second of what is expected to be four annual increases. The commission approved a 12.1 percent hike last September.
The utilities, both subsidiaries of Ohio-based American Electric Power, say their latest request would increase revenue about $96 million. Monthly residential bills per 1,000 kilowatt hours would rise to $86.44, from $80.47.
The utilities say the increase wouldn't generate any profit. Rather, it would cover passed-along costs for fuel, purchased power and equipment to remove flue gas from the John Amos power plant in Putnam County.
If approved, the utilities say rates would go up July 1.

And you might have some appearance of "being learned" if you knew the difference between acid rain and greenhouse gases.
CO2-greenhouse gas SOx NOx - not greenhouse gases George H.W. Bush - president 1988~1992. Self described "environmental president". Introduced the Clean Air/Water Amendment in 1990 that implemented "free market" cap and trade on SOx and NOx emissions. No spin, just the facts, my man....
You're probably the only person in the country who would insinuate George Bush was an environmentalist. On second thought, probably not since I once heard a coworker say he would be a demoncrat as long as Republicans wanted to take people's guns. In all honesty, any cause Bush championed concerning the environment was an effort to avoid stricter laws. As far as what this has to do with Al Gore, I am going to assume you didn't know he has made more than 800 million dollars off of the global warming myth, mostly from brokering the cap and trade credits that you mention. I have no cause other than making people aware of the fact that the people they vote for have a big impact on their daily budget. I once read that companies don't pay taxes, they collect them. That would apply to all of their other expenses also. You might have some appearance of being learned if your post didn't so closely resemble a "cut and paste" job from a CNN blog.
